The following documentation must be submitted with an application for the grant of a Trade & Business Licence.

Where the applicant is an individual:

  • Application form duly completed.
  • Filing fee of CI$75.00
  • Licence fee as determined from the Schedule of Fees. To download a copy of the schedule, please click here . Note: the fees change periodically and applicants should inquire with the Trade & Business Licensing Board Secretariat to confirm the current applicable fee).
  • Police clearance certificate if the individual is not Caymanian, a Permanent Resident or holder of Permanent Residency and Employment Rights Certificate or has not been resident in the Cayman Islands for the past 5 years. Police clearance certificates are still required for all persons/companies applying for the following types of businesses: Child Care/Children Tutoring/Dance Classes/Afterschool Classes/Pre-School/Baby Sitting/ Summer Programs/Elderly Care/Money Lending/Accounting/Wellness Services. Police clearance certificates should be provided from the place where the person concerned has lived for the previous six months. ;
  • Color copy of the picture page of the individual's passport.
  • Proof that the applicant is Caymanian (eg copy of birth certificate, Caymanian Status certificate or acknowledgement letter confirming possession of Caymanian Status).

Approvals/Inspections

  • Approval from the Public Service Commission, relevant Ministry or Head of Department if the applicant is a Civil Servant. Note: this approval must be provided annually.

Applications by Companies:

  • Application form duly completed.
  • Filing fee of CI$75.00

  • Certificate of incorporation
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association
  • Return of Shareholdings (for companies register more than 12 months)
  • Register of Directors, Officers and Members
  • Proof that at least 60% of the shareholders and at least 60% of the directors of the company are Caymanian.

Due diligence requirements

With respect to all Directors/Members/Officers of the business,

  • Non Caymanians - Financial reference from a bank or other similar institution (eg brokerage) where the person concerned has maintained an account for not less than three years. Alternatively a copy of a local utility bill with the person's name may be submitted.
  • Police clearance certificate if the individual is not Caymanian, a Permanent Resident or holder of Permanent Residency and Employment Rights Certificate or has not been resident in the Cayman Islands for the past 5 years. Police clearance certificates are still required for all persons/companies applying for the following types of businesses: Child Care/Children Tutoring/Dance Classes/Afterschool Classes/Pre-School/Baby Sitting/ Summer Programs/Elderly Care/Money Lending/Accounting/Wellness Services. Approvals/Inspections

  • Approval from Department of Environmental Health (where necessary, e.g. restaurateur, beauty salons, tattoo artists, garages & mechanics, barber shops etc.)
  • Approval from the Public Service Commission, relevant Ministry or Head of Department if the applicant is a Civil Servant. Note: this approval must be provided annually.
  • Approval from Planning Department (in cases where the proposed business is to be conducted from a residential location, mobile or online)
  • Copy of the intent to lease agreement if the proposed business is to be conducted in a commercial location.
